Body
The Big Top Circus concert is performed by accomplished musicians from the Quad-Cities who enjoy playing the many variations of circus music written during the early 1900's when the circus used live musicians to accompany performances. A fourteen piece circus band features two trumpets, three flutes/piccolos, three clarinets, baritone horn, three trombones, tuba, and drums.
During those early years of the circus, the band would often play an opening concert of music used throughout the show. Historically, the compositions of the music and the uniqueness of the composers is interesting and has withstood the test of time. Circus music still is popular among our young musicians in schools and in our entertainment industries.
The Big Top Circus Band program is designed to give the audience a taste of the flavor of the circus in an hour of music and historical comment.
The free concert is open to all ages, sponsored by the Friends of the Moline Public Library Foundation
