Program Description
Body
“Promise and Prejudice” is the second of a six-program Quad Cities-wide film and discussion series, “Becoming American: Our Immigration Experience: Past and Present.”
Open to the general public, Augustana College professor, Dr. Christopher Strunk moderates the film and discussion program which explores the tension – historic and current – between Americans’ acceptance of immigrants, including the celebration of their own immigrant heritage, versus the periodic backlash prompted by concern about the economic and cultural effects of newcomers.
No registrations is required to attend the program. The Quad Cities-wide film and discussion schedules are available in the library lobby or at the 2nd floor information desk.
Becoming American: A Documentary Film and Discussion Series on Our Immigration Experience is a project of City Lore in collaboration with the Immigration and Ethnic History Society and the International Coalition of the Sites of Conscience. The project has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: “Exploring the Human Endeavor.”
